We’re currently training the South African neural network to improve bird detection accuracy for local species. As of now, over 21 South African bird species have already been successfully trained into the system. This is a major step toward more effective, region-specific avian protection and reducing false detections.
IdentiFlight® is the industry-leading technology in detecting and identifying species of interest in wind farms. IdentiFlight’s technology combines high-performance optical systems with proprietary machine vision and artificial intelligence software. The IdentiFlight system has completed multi-year independent validation and has been deployed at projects internationally since 2018.
In an operating wind farm, IdentiFlight contributes to bird conservation by helping protect species from collisions with rotating wind turbine blades. The system provides informed curtailment to specific turbines to reduce energy loss.
For wind projects in development, IdentiFlight accurately quantifies bird activity at prospective sites. The species abundance data gathered by these IdentiFlight study units assists with the permitting and approval process.
